Sant Sebastià Hotel Cosmopolitan

Once again, Mallorca is preparing the popular fiestas of ‘Sant Sebastià’. The capital of the island, Palma de Mallorca, dresses up to celebrate its patron saint festivities. The parties last ten days and will have more than 76 activities for all audiences. Although it is celebrated also in various other villages of the island.

The fiestas of ‘Sant Sebastià’ have been held in the city of Palma since the 17th century. Its origin goes back when San Sebastián was proclaimed patron of Palma de Mallorca by the miraculous end of the plague of 1523 and 1524, with the arrival of a bone of the arm of San Sebastián coming from Rhodes.

Concerts, performances, exhibitions, religious events, fireworks and barbeques in the streets are the protagonists of these days.

The celebrations of ‘Sant Sebastià’ began on Friday January 13 and end on the 22nd. The most popular act is the verbena, which is held on January 19 at night with bonfires and live music in various places in Palma.

On January 20, the day of San Sebastian, the morning the Mass of the saint patron of the city is celebrated in the Cathedral. At noon the Cycle Day takes place and at night the award ceremony of Premis Ciutat de Palma is celebrated.

The next day the traditional ‘Correfoc’ takes place. It consists of a parade of demons in which hundreds of pyrotechnic fires are launched. The public participates in the party by dancing with the demons and enjoying the pyrotechnic spectacle. This year the tour begins at Jaume III from the bridge of Sa Riera.

On Sunday, January 22, the celebrations will conclude with a day full of activities that put an end to the fiestas of ‘Sant Sebastià’.
