3 plans to do in September in Mallorca

September comes, month of transition to autumn, end of summer, a month that offers us great options outside the vacation maelstrom of summer months. Now that everything seems to get going, there is no reason why your holidays should stop. September in Mallorca is synonymous with mild temperatures; 27 C degrees of average during this month are a guarantee of sun, though fewer influx and better facilities.

From Hotel Cosmopolitan Mallorca we want to propose to you different options to be able to make the most of this month full of surprises, sometimes unknown. As an analogy of our excellence, we want to offer you three different proposals where land and sea, gastronomy and culture, passion and respect for the earth won’t leave you indifferent.

1. During the month of September the rhythm in cultural centers rises. Palma de Mallorca, former port where Venetian tapestries and Mediterranean wonders used to disembark, today is one of the international capitals for art and paradise for dealers, specialists, or just viewers  who are looking for novel movements as well as the latest avant-gardes.

For the last years, the number of public and private galleries has exponentially increased. Due to this growth, "La Nit de l’Art" has been celebrated for several years during the weekend of September 20th - 22nd, being Saturday 21st the biggest day. The night offers infinite possibilities, as all types of artistic events will be taking place in every corner of the city.

It is the night in which galleries, museums, and art studios open their doors until midnight and inaugurate exhibitions simultaneously. This event calls a lot of people who go out to the streets and visit many exhibitions.

Apart from art exhibitions, there are all types of events taking place in different places of the city, adding entertainment to "La Nit de l’Art". You don’t have to be an art expert to be able to value this memorable occasion that brings together the most important British, German, and Russian collectors every year in private samples that take place throughout the night.

2. During the month of September the rhythm in the interior of Mallorca speeds up, autumn is coming and traditions rule. During this month you will be able to enjoy the best gastronomic experiences, wine tasting, and fairs. Some, like wine harvest festivities and celebrations in Santa Ponça, are bustling; some others are calmer, as for example, the melon fair or Beata Santa Catalina Tomás festivities in the town of Santa Margalida.

Mallorca along its history has been a reference point for Mediterranean variants of vineyards, from Roman times until today. Nowadays, one of the towns where the tradition has developed into an international market and has put a designation of origin in the map is the village of Binissalem.

Binissalem becomes a big party area for two weeks to celebrate the end of grape harvest. "La Festa des Vermar" attracts people from all over the island and beyond with its events that include wine tasting, competitions of grape stepping, contests of grape throw, carnival parades, and outdoor dinners where the traditional "Fideus des Vermar" dish is served.

3. Finally, we offer you a sport, cultural and gastronomic proposal. "La Ruta de Pedra en Sec GR 221" suggests to discover the landscapes built with dry stone at the Sierra de Tramuntana, today declared UNESCO World Heritage Site in the category of cultural landscape. Moreover, it is possible to visit interesting historical remnants, find out about myths and legends, and get to know the traditions, the architecture, the customs, the gastronomy, and the crafts from this privileged place on the island.

The hiking route gets closer to the coast and in some places to the highest peaks of the mountain range. The highest point of the route is called 'coll de ses Cases de Neu' with a little more than 1.200 meters of height. This combination and the diversity of vegetation, with shadowy holm oak woods, garrigues, and 'màquies' are typically Mediterranean.

'La Ruta de Piedra en Seco GR 221' is based on the old path network restored by the Consell de Mallorca, which makes it accessible to hikers of all ages. Furthermore, the island's climatology makes it possible to hike there almost all year round.
